The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking an Engineer to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering Team, located at our Kingston office. In this position will be responsible for the execution and review of a variety of storm, water and wastewater design tasks, such as site servicing and feasibility studies, stormwater management and grading design, technical design, reporting and project management for municipal engineering and land development projects. The position will include business development and responding to proposal requests. The opportunity will have a focus on local projects within Kingston and the surrounding areas.

What you can expect to do here:

An Engineer begins their week with a team huddle, discussing the week's objectives with other Engineers, Engineering Graduates, Technologists and Project Managers. They then dive into the technicalities, completing detailed design calculations and reports, reviewing intricate drawings and technical specifications for various municipal and land development projects. Collaboration is key, as they coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure all aspects of the projects align. The work includes reviewing project plans and site conditions, ensuring compliance with zoning laws and applicable regulations and guidelines. You will collaborate with Architects, Contractors, and Clients to design infrastructure that supports community growth, such as subdivisions, site development, roads, water systems, and public spaces. The work is a balance between office‑based design and on‑site application, all contributing to the sustainable development of the community. Each project brings unique challenges and opportunities to innovate, making every day a dynamic experience in shaping the spaces where people live and work. An Engineer continuously supports the development and mentorship of young professionals.

In addition to these responsibilities, an Engineer is prepared to take on other duties as required, showcasing their versatility and commitment to the team. Their contributions are essential to the successful delivery of public and private sector projects, impacting communities by enhancing the efficiency and safety of land development and municipal engineering projects.

What you'll bring to WSP :
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or an equivalent program;
  • A Master’s degree would be considered an asset;
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in Ontario;
  • 3-8 years of experience working as an engineer in land development and municipal engineering;
  • Design knowledge of roads and highways, site servicing including storm, sanitary and water, grading and drainage, including stormwater management;
  • Industry knowledge to competently respond to proposal requests;
  • Working knowledge of the land development approvals process in Ontario;
  • Sound knowledge of engineering standards, principles, practices and techniques, including reference guidelines and design manuals used in land development and municipal engineering projects;
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and a general understanding of the software design capabilities;
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical specifications;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills;
  • Working experience with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Familiarity with other software design and modelling tools would be an assest;
  • Project management experience is an asset;
  • Interest in mentoring engineering graduates and technologists;
  • Comfortable working independently in both an office and field environment, and a
