Who- the Company:

Our client is a successful and reputable mid-size privately‑held Canadian organization that was founded over 20 years ago. The company is broadly speaking in the financial services sector, but it is not a bank or credit union. They have been recognized in the past as a Top Employer. In addition to their business achievements, the organization promotes a culture of collaboration and employees are encouraged to contribute positively to the communities they live and work in.

What- the Role:

Swim Recruiting is seeking a new Executive Vice‑President, Finance (essentially CFO) on behalf of this great organization. The areas of responsibility are diverse:

  • Directly overseeing accounting, finance, and investment functions for the entire company.
  • Leading 3-4 direct reports—departmental managers who in turn lead their own teams. Total finance team of around 18.
  • Conducting regular presentations on financial health, forecast to actuals, goal attainment, etc. to the CEO, SLT, Board, Parent Company, etc.
  • Strategic planning, both short‑term and long‑term.
  • Overseeing financial reporting, including future projects such as potential IFRS or US GAAP conversion.
  • Leading M&A initiatives and exploring opportunities for strategic business partnerships.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with 3rd‑party consultants (auditors, bankers, insurance providers, investment advisors, etc.).
  • High‑level tax support, in conjunction with external tax consultants.
  • Financial system optimization; seeking out opportunities for automation and system‑led efficiencies.
  • Contributing positively to a healthy, engaged, and solutions‑oriented corporate culture; providing mentorship and career development opportunities to the accounting & finance team.
Who- the Candidate:
  • At least 14 years’ progressive and relevant work experience.
  • CPA Accounting designation, or International equivalent, is required. Legacy CA is preferred. MBA is preferred.
  • Fantastic leadership and mentorship skills; recent experience as the top finance leader (CFO, EVP Finance, VP Finance), reporting directly into CEO/President/Founder.
  • Experience in financial services, fin‑tech, or a similar sector is required.
  • M&A exposure is an asset, preferably with involvement in a full‑cycle acquisition—from target identification to purchase completion to post‑acquisition integration.
  • Experience with a Canadian‑based company expanding operations/partnerships in the US is highly preferred.
  • Ability to navigate the constant changes of a fast‑paced and entrepreneurial organization within a sector that is very competitive and ripe for disruption.

Where:

HQ’d in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. Hybrid flexibility, 3 days/week in office.

How Much:

Generous base salary commensurate with experience and leadership skills, in the range of $230,000 to around $290,000. The total compensation includes a robust bonus target, an RRSP match, paid health & wellness days, CPA PD support, strong health & dental benefits, and some great industry‑based perks.
