Job description

Reporting to the Regional Director, this joint role of Executive Director and Director of Care assumes ultimate responsibility for providing high quality care to all residents, while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for residents, staff, and their families. The responsibilities for this role will include:

Executive Director Duties
  1. Providing overall leadership in the residence to ensure that residents’ goals and objectives are achieved.
  2. Management of all human, financial, and physical resources for the various departments.
  3. Recruit team members and aid in their professional development by fostering an environment focused on knowledge sharing and skill building.
  4. Take part in the lives of the residents, their families, and the local community to share the mission, vision, and values of the residence.
  5. Collaborate in the budgeting process and manage the facility within the budget while overseeing the accounting operations.
Director of Care Duties
  1. The implementation and evaluation of the nursing department initiatives and functions.
  2. Leads in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care.
  3. Effectively manages utilization of nursing supplies.
  4. Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at the resident and unit program level.
  5. Maintains an active presence in mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
  6. Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; works with WSIB claims and return to work plans.
  7. Works on special projects, reviews, and other initiatives.
A successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
  1. Must be a Registered Nurse, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  2. Current, valid membership or eligibility for membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  3. 1+ years of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector is required.
  4. Long Term Care Administrator’s Certification (Minimum 100 hours of instruction time) completed or enrolled.
  5. Ontario Fire Safety: Training for Owners/Operators Course Certificate.
  6. At least 3 years of working experience:
    - In a managerial or supervisory capacity in the health or social services sector; or
    - In another managerial or supervisory capacity, if the Long Term Care Administrator Certificate has been successfully completed.
Additional qualifications include:
  1. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  2. Superb organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  3. Customer-focused attitude, with an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with clients.
  4. Ability to generate creative solutions and new approaches to daily challenges.
  5. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety practices and Employment Standards Act principles and legislation.
  6. Sound knowledge of basic accounting principles and applicable legislation.
