Qualifications

  • Experience with operating equipment and certificates in the field preferred.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all labor functions assigned by the Director of Public Works.
  • Maintain and upkeep arena ice during the winter.
  • Conduct custodian duties on Village-owned property.
  • Operate Village equipment excluding excavating machinery.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and work overtime when necessary.
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract prior to starting.

Job description
Equipment Operator I – Village of Ashcroft

This position will be under the direction of the Director of Public Works or designate and follow the guidelines of the Village of Ashcroft & CUPE Local 900 Collective Agreement.

This is a union position, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900, Ashcroft Unit, and has a 40‑hour work week. The current rate of pay as outlined in the collective agreement is $37.00 per hour. Wages for this position will be increased retroactively or adjusted accordingly once bargaining of the new collective agreement has concluded.

Requirements
  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement.
  • Minimum Grade 12 graduation.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and take training to achieve certification in fields such as Water, Sewer, Pool and Arena Operations.
  • Experience with public works equipment, industrial equipment, and operating equipment certificates.
  • Ability to perform labour skills in all types of conditions and inclement weather.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other employees and respectfully in a public environment.
  • Preferred mechanical aptitude, excellent customer service and communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • All labour functions assigned by the Director of Public Works or designate.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of arena ice (winter afternoon shift and weekend).
  • Custodian duties on Village‑owned property.
  • Operation of Village equipment, excluding excavating machinery.
  • On‑call rotation and willingness to work overtime on occasion.
  • Must live within a 30‑minute response time for on‑call rotation.
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract prior to starting employment.
