Environmental and Regulatory Student - Edmonton / Sarnia / Nanticoke

What Role Will You Play In Our Team

You will support the Environment and Regulatory team at the Strathcona Refinery, Sarnia Complex or Nanticoke Operations sites, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and approvals, and supporting implementation of the company’s environmental strategy.

What You Will Do
  • Providing environmental / engineering advice on environmental aspects to support day-to-day operations in one or more of the following areas : air management (emissions, inventories, modelling), water management (chemical and physical hydrology and hydrogeology), waste management, ecology (wildlife, biodiversity, vegetation), spill prevention and response
  • Environmental performance reporting with accuracy and timeliness as required by regulations and license approvals
  • Support the implementation of the Leak Detection and Repair Program
  • Manage the fence line monitoring program
  • Development and implementation of environmental standards and managing systems
  • Supporting QA / QC of site regulatory documentation
  • Update manuals and documentation as required
  • Managing environmental protection and regulatory compliance efforts at the site
  • Supporting routine environmental field sampling and inspections
  • Providing ongoing technical support to the operating unit on environmental issues
  • Leading and completing specific environmental management project(s) or improvement opportunities
About You

Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of at least 2nd year or higher in Engineering with an Environmental / Civil major or concentration, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management degree
  • Currently enrolled in a university program and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
  • A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for this site-based position

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

  • Commitment to safety on and off the job
  • Ability to adapt to challenging projects, working in a high pace and often changing work environment
  • Proficiency with computer-based data management programs, spreadsheet and presentation applications
  • Self-motivation with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve
  • Previous industry or environmental experience is beneficial but not essential
