Job summary

A tech consulting company is seeking an EC/Payroll Tester in Ottawa to perform end-to-end testing of Employee Central and Payroll solutions. Responsibilities include executing hands-on testing of SAP HR Payroll, designing test cases, validating payroll calculations, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Ideal candidates must have strong experience with SAP HR Payroll and a solid understanding of payroll concepts. This is an onsite position offering a dynamic project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform end-to-end testing of Employee Central and Payroll solutions.
  • Execute hands-on testing of SAP HR Payroll, including payroll runs.
  • Design and maintain test scenarios based on requirements.
  • Validate payroll calculations and statutory reporting.
  • Test integrations between EC, SAP HR Payroll, and third-party systems.
  • Identify and track defects using management tools.
  • Support data validation and parallel payroll testing.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll and statutory requirements.
  • Participate in requirement reviews and provide feedback.

Job description

Title: EC/Payroll Tester

Duration: 06 Months

Location: Ottawa, ON/Onsite

Responsibilities
  • Perform end-to-end testing of Employee Central and Payroll solutions, including unit, system, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Execute hands‑on testing of SAP HR Payroll, including payroll runs, retro calculations, off‑cycle payroll, and year‑end processes.
  • Design, prepare, and maintain test scenarios, test cases, and test scripts based on business and functional requirements.
  • Validate payroll calculations, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and statutory reporting.
  • Test integrations between EC, SAP HR Payroll, and third‑party systems (e.g., time management, benefits, finance).
  • Identify, document, and track defects using defect management tools; work closely with developers and functional consultants to resolve issues.
  • Support data validation, reconciliation, and parallel payroll testing.
  • Ensure compliance with country‑specific payroll and statutory requirements.
  • Participate in requirement reviews and provide testability feedback early in the project lifecycle.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Hands‑on testing experience with SAP HR Payroll (mandatory).
  • Experience testing Employee Central (EC) and payroll‑related processes.
  • Strong understanding of payroll concepts, including gross‑to‑net, retro payroll, taxes, and statutory deductions.
  • Experience with payroll testing methodologies, including parallel payroll testing.
  • Ability to analyze functional specifications and translate them into effective test cases.
  • Familiarity with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors EC Payroll or SAP HCM Payroll.
  • Knowledge of country‑specific payroll regulations (one or more countries preferred).
  • ISTQB or similar testing certification.
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
