Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Provincial Oncology Drug Program and in collaboration with the Pharmacy Leadership Team, the Drug Distribution Technician integrates drug distribution initiatives within the medication use system and informs the design and use of systems supporting a robust Medication Management and Use System for oncology drugs in Manitoba.

The technician collaborates with internal and provincial partners to establish drug distribution operations focused on quality improvement and patient safety. The incumbent develops relationships within the Systemic Therapy Program and with provincial partners to support safe, timely, and equitable treatment of Manitobans with cancer. The technician provides functional oversight and daily coordination of purchasing and inventory management workflows, ensuring activities are organized, prioritized, and progressing as expected. The technician collaborates closely with staff and management to monitor workflow, address issues, and support efficient day-to-day operations, escalating concerns when appropriate.

Note: The successful candidate will be working with hazardous materials daily. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training are provided. Primary working hours are Monday to Friday day shifts with occasional weekends and statutory holidays.

Qualifications

Required

  • A Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Technician Certificate (CCAPP) Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate OR the program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for candidates who successfully complete a non-CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
  • Additional training or degree, including, as applicable, education in areas of management, quality, or informatics preferred.
  • 2 years of recent experience as a Pharmacy Technician in the Health System and in oncology practice setting is preferred.
  • 1 year of related experience or education/training in supervision or management is preferred.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Listed or eligible to be listed as a Pharmacy Technician by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) within 3 months of hire is required.
  • Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology membership is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.

  • Must be able to work under stress and time constraints.
  • May be required to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple sites.
  • Work with hazardous materials daily. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training are provided.
Additional

  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset.
