Overview

Position Description

This role has a starting hourly rate of $27.43!

Serco Canada Inc. supports the Ministry of Transportation as a prime for the Driver Examiner Services (DES) contract. DriveTest Centre operations are supported across Ontario. Examiners are based at one of our 56 DriveTest Centre locations. The Driver Examiners engage with customers in a friendly, knowledgeable and professional manner to support the licensing process.

Summary / Purpose
  • Evaluates the driving ability of applicants at the G2 and G level.
  • Evaluates the driving ability of applicants at the M2, M, and controlled class (ABZ) level if qualified and required.
  • Provides grade of road test licence information and resolves licensing issues.
  • Provides information and assistance related to Driver Examination services.
  • Ensures the fair and proper conduct of examinations in an environment that enables candidates to perform at their best.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service during the delivery of Driver Examination Services.
  • Responds to enquiries related to driver licensing; determines applicant status; provides information regarding test/re-test procedures and class of licence(s).
  • Completes verification by verbally confirming the candidate\'s full name and date of birth.
  • Examines applicants through a road test to determine abilities in vehicle mechanics and handling; notes compliance to traffic laws, stress handling, driving regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Provides examination results and details regarding errors and areas requiring improvement.
  • Completes evaluation forms for road test assessments and enters results into the system.
  • Attends travel points to provide testing and licensing services where applicable.
  • If conducting M2, M and controlled class tests, observes and assesses riding habits and demonstrated ability in vehicle operation.
  • Conducts road tests for individuals with special needs or disabilities as required.
  • Complies with regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to operations including OH&S, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality; adheres to confidentiality requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Health and Safety
  • Maintains a safe, healthy and sustainable working environment at DriveTest Centres and travel points.
  • Prevents unsafe conditions by following correct use of equipment, materials and protective devices; keeps informed on legislative changes.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and complies with OHSA duties of workers.
Other / Projects
  • Comply with Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned, including special projects.
  • Participate in required security measures and IDEC testing for road test examination.
Qualifications
  • Education / Certifications: GED or high school diploma; valid Ontario Class G driver\'s licence; at least four years of driving experience verified by licence date; valid Class M and/or controlled class licence if applicable; no more than four demerit points and three violations at all times during employment as a Driver Examiner.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of the DriveTest program and related legislation preferred; intermediate computer skills; two years of demonstrated excellent customer service.
  • Skills / Competencies: Excellent customer service; ability to multi-task; ability to process and manage sensitive personal information; knowledge of Highway Traffic Act provisions and related policies; strong judgement and decision-making; ability to self-manage a schedule.
Mental and Physical Effort
  • Mental: Moderate to high intensity; several hours per day.
  • Physical: Moderate intensity; several hours per day.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to disagreeable elements; minor risk of injury; weather and vehicle exposure.
  • Hours vary based on customer demand and location; may include evenings, weekends.
  • Attendance at formal training with classroom instruction and on-the-job shadowing; unsuccessful completion ends employment immediately.
