About Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Assignment: Indigenous Education Curriculum Support Teacher – Secondary

Working from Winchelsea Learning Center

The assignment may change to meet the needs of the Indigenous Education Program and enrollment.

1.00 FTE TEMPORARY

Commencing October 1, 2025 until the full return of the incumbent or upon notification that the temporary position will end earlier due to budgetary issues or declining enrollment. The anticipated end date of this assignment is June 30, 2026.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To

• Provide assistance, as directed, to all areas of the Qualicum School District Indigenous Program that are consistent with the District Equity Scan and the District Strategic Plan;
• Provide support and guidance on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action;
• Provide curricular support regarding Indigenous worldviews and perspectives for all staff and students as requested;
• Plan, promote and facilitate the integration of Indigenous worldviews and perspectives into the school system in conjunction with local First Nation communities, district curriculum personnel, school administration, and teachers;
• Co-teach and model local protocol, hul’qumi’num language, knowledge, and teachings;
• Support with creating partnerships with local First Nation communities;
• Work cooperatively with all staff to increase Indigenous students’ knowledge and understanding of their cultural heritage;
• Work cooperatively with Indigenous staff in the planning and implementation of Indigenous pedagogy, local protocol and knowledge that supports students, staff, and community;
• Foster and maintain positive, supportive relationships between Indigenous people and schools;
• Assist in the development and implementation of Qualicum School District Indigenous program goals and future directions;
• Attend meetings as required and where appropriate;
• Provide monthly reports to the District Principal of Indigenous Education;
• Provide curricular resource support for the hul’qumi’num Language program;
• Success tracking of students focused on the BC Graduation requirements in conjunction with teachers, support staff, school administration and District Principal of Indigenous Education.

The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications

• A valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with the BC curriculum at the secondary level;
• A teaching degree at the secondary level;
• Teaching experience at the secondary level;
• Teaching experience in Coash Salish First Nations communities;
• Teaching experience working with Indigenous students;
• First Nations, Metis, or Inuit ancestry.
