Salary range for the position is $128,298 to $184,428. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How You Will Create An Impact
Patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of the position of Director, Professional Practice. The Director, Professional Practice works in partnership with clinical operations and support services leaders to support the delivery of superior healthcare by providing leadership, professional practice consultation and expert advice regarding legislative scopes of practice, regulatory practice standards, controls on practice, professional competencies, clinical excellence and best practice; optimizing scopes of practice; optimizing scope of employment; practice change leadership; fostering inter‑professional collaboration; and supporting excellence in patient and clinician experience.
What You Will Work On
- Ensures strategic and operational planning within clinical programmes and support services reflects professional standards and practices that support patient/client‑focused care/services. Provides direction and leadership for practice initiatives and innovations that advance IH strategic plans.
- Provides strategic leadership and expert advice on professional practice matters and plays an integral role in supporting the delivery of quality care processes, the creation of quality practice environments, and achieving successful and sustainable large‑scale organisational change. Ensures the expedited resolution of problems or barriers to enable successful transformation including escalating issues where appropriate.
- Identifies and incorporates industry innovations related to professional practice, best practices, and large‑scale change, looking to improve quality of care and the emerging patient experience framework.
- Monitors health and system trends for future impact on healthcare in collaboration with the Chief Nursing and Allied Health Officer (CNAHO) and clinical operations and support services leaders.
- Leads professional practice consultation services (e.g., individual, team, and strategic consultations) in order to promote and maintain profession‑specific standards and scope of practice; promote professional development and competency development; promote evidence‑based practice; and address professional practice issues for all regulated and non‑regulated healthcare disciplines in IH.
- Works closely with IH Managers, Directors, and Executive Directors responsible for clinical and support services including but not limited to: Acute Services; Community Services; Indigenous Health; Population Health; Mental Health & Substance Use; Long‑term Care Services; Laboratory, Pharmacy and Medical Imaging Services; Quality and Patient Safety; Employee Health and Wellness; and Human Resources. Collaboration with multiple programmes, services, and networks to achieve a coordinated and integrated approach to strategic planning whilst supporting practice excellence within the organisation’s vision and values.
- Promotes and builds linkages, alliances, and collaborative relations with high level internal and external contacts and partners. Represents IH on committees and advisory groups including provincial and strategic planning tables at various Ministry and Regulatory levels.
- Provides leadership and liaises with internal and external partners (including regulatory and licensing bodies, both Colleges and Associations) to participate in and promote knowledge translation activities. Develops appropriate contacts and networks that enhance knowledge sharing and practice standardisation. Creates partnerships with relevant Ministry, Regulatory and educational institutions and policy‑makers to influence professional practice clinical service delivery to meet present and future strategic and clinical service needs.
- Ensures alignment of Professional Practice strategic and operational plans with the organisational strategic plan. Monitors performance trends and identifies and promotes improvement opportunities, through innovation and partnership, to ensure consistent delivery of quality practice services throughout IH.
- Formally reports on the collective impact and sustained measurable outcomes of professional practice changes and initiatives across the organisation including reporting to Senior Executive Team and the Board of Directors.
- Provides leadership to identify strategies to achieve specified goals and objectives of patient/client care service delivery. Proactively identifies risks in achieving goals and objectives.
- Develops and manages the annual budget for Professional Practice and the Clinical Process Team including monitoring budget performance, planning, and adjusting operations and/or staffing to meet projections and annual targets, and approving expenditures and preparing summaries for fiscal reporting.
- Develops and maintains a human resources plan that supports Professional Practice goals and objectives and provides the highest level of customer service. This includes recruitment strategies, performance management, and retention planning for the Department.
- Provides leadership to direct reporting staff and colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and modelling key behaviours; encouraging dialogue; and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolution of work issues. Assists the Professional Practice team to define shared and individual goals, meet target dates, and ensure alignment of team goals with customer needs and the goals of other Professional Practice Office teams and staff. Fosters team spirit, trust, mutual respect, and inclusion.
- Evaluates individual and team performance and responds to changing organisational needs by conducting continuous assessments of team activities, facilitating feedback within and across programmes, and responding to changing demands.
- In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Programme, maintains a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health & Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
