Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director, Human Resources provides broad HR advice and support related to policies, procedures, and practices to their direct reports and the management team within MHNL Operations. Responsibilities include all facets of human resource management, including:

  • HR planning
  • Labour relations, including union negotiations
  • Grievance management and administration of the collective agreements
  • Recruiting and staffing
  • Employee relations
  • Job classification and evaluation
  • Employment equity
  • Workplace health and safety
  • Employee wellness
  • Workforce realignment and redeployment
  • HR leadership for merger and acquisition activities, including organizational design, onboarding/offboarding, and related requirements
  • Establishing leadership credibility within the HR department and fostering a positive, collaborative team approach
  • Building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government and unions

A major component of the role is leadership development within HR and providing overall support during merger and acquisition activities.

Professional Qualifications & Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related discipline
  • Ten years’ leadership experience, preferably in a unionized environment, including five years in management with depth across HR disciplines and experience leading a team of HR specialists
  • Experience creating HR processes, practices and policies to support high-growth operations
  • Sound business judgment with dispute resolution and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of local and federal labor law
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and cross-functional knowledge
  • High standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a management team
  • Ability to influence, advise and build trust with various stakeholders
