Overview

Job Description

This position is on the Global Solutions product team with 2 direct reports. It is a product management position with broad responsibilities that cover all P&L aspects for core trade finance. In this portfolio are Import Letters of Credit, Export Letters of Credit (including advising, confirming and discounting), Documentary Collections and other variations RBC uses to support its aspiring global clients.

The trade finance business is critically important to Commercial Banking success and this leadership role will provide the incumbent with an opportunity to lead the strategic direction, marketing mix (4 Ps) and overall risk of the product. To achieve a competitive offer and great financial performance you will develop relationships with foreign Banks and internal partners to grow the business in a scalable way and manage all related processes. You will also develop a deep understanding of international banking.

It is important to point out that with the acquisition of HSBC in March 2024, integration and the strategic approach for this business going forward will be an important focus.

What will you do?
  • Run the product like a business, you are accountable for the Product Profit and Loss (e.g. revenue, expenses, profitability).
  • Set, manage and monitor business performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your portfolio.
  • Ensure effective management of each product through its life-cycle to capture its full business, market and profitability potential. This includes responsibility and accountability for effective management of the total end-to-end product delivery and customer-service support processes and related costs.
  • Drive improvements to products through use of data and related analysis/insight.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, conduct feasibility and business cases to persuade stakeholders and decision makers to invest.
  • Lead the implementation of key product improvements, large and small. Monitor performance of the changes and adjust course as required.
  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines planned / prioritized improvements across time. Work with key relationships to raise awareness and gain support.
  • Establish and update product pricing through understanding of cost allocations and competitive benchmarking.
  • Automate, digitize and improve the client experience. Use key levers to reduce costs while minimizing adverse impact.
  • Participate in broader Enterprise efforts to improve banking capabilities and manage risk for RBC clients.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships (functional partners, IT, vendors etc.).
  • Support, educate and enable our sales teams (Trade specialists, Account Managers, Associate Account Managers etc.).
  • Understand, mitigate and anticipate portfolio risks. Conduct risk assessments (Canadian Banking Risk Assessments, Supplier risk Assessments and other risk assessments) to document risks.
  • Build solutions and processes that protect our clients and the Bank. Ensure the product line is compliant with all regulations (e.g. AML, Cross border, Country). Minimize impact to clients and sales force wherever possible.

  • Trade Finance product knowledge and experience
  • Keen interest and knowledge of international business

  • Experience in successfully managing / growing business client relationships Familiarity with transaction banking systems
  • Superior relationship management (RBC, client, foreign banks, compliance, GRM, etc.) sometimes in a sensitive, “time-boxed” environment
  • Effective and balanced approach to risk management
  • Strategic influencing skills - effectively develops, maintains and uses network to impact and influence to achieve goals/end results; adapts and works effectively within a variety of situations and with various groups
  • Challenges status quo, communicates a compelling case for change, articulates the benefits of moving forward
  • Proven team player
