Mandate
The Digital Engagement Specialist is responsible for identifying, implementing, and optimizing digital technologies and strategies to support alumni and donor engagement. Working within the Alumni & Development communications and marketing team, they play a key role in advancing the university’s engagement goals in the context of a comprehensive fundraising campaign. Alumni & Development works to advance the vision of the university by fostering lifelong relationships between the university and its alumni, friends and community members with the goal of increasing personal involvement and philanthropic support of the university’s academic mission and priorities. Digital engagement is an emerging and increasingly vital factor in that work.
Objectives
- Combine strategic digital marketing expertise with strong technical fluency to design and deliver high-performing digital donor and alumni engagement campaigns.
- Translate analytics into actionable insights, shaping creative and content and optimizing user journeys.
- Contribute to overall excellence throughout the unit’s digital engagement activities by ensuring the effective use of and flow between digital platforms (email, web, donation tools), empowering A&D team members through training and documentation and finding common solutions to platform or channel-related issues.
This position requires a results-oriented digital engagement specialist with 3+ years of experience in digital engagement, digital marketing or a similar role who combines technical fluency with strategic digital marketing expertise.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Include
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
- Proficiency with email marketing platforms (eg. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Engaging Networks, Blackbaud products), preferably used in tandem with a CRM.
- Familiarity and demonstrated experience with mainstream digital marketing tools such as Google Ads, programmatic ads, paid social, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and Looker Studio or Agency Analytics.
- Experience executing multi-channel digital campaigns (email, paid ads, landing pages).
- Understanding of user journeys, conversion optimization, and donor lifecycle management.
- Experience building, testing and troubleshooting HTML emails (must show knowledge of basic HTML and CSS coding and email content fundamentals, such as subject lines, preview text, body copy, and calls to action).
- Strong analytical skills and experience with marketing campaign analytics and reporting.
- Ability to manage projects and time to achieve goals on time and on budget.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to digital communications, web accessibility, privacy legislation (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Canada's Anti-Spam Law), and other related legislation.
- Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an interest in training and supporting colleagues.
- Knowledge of cause-based marketing strategies and the donor fundraising approach is an asset; prior work in higher education setting is an asset but not required.
