Position Overview

The Globe and Mail is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to manage and evolve cloud and on‑premises infrastructure. This role is critical in ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our applications, including online subscriptions, third‑party integrations, and internal systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and evolve our cloud environment while managing on‑premises resources during migration.
  • Support migration of services to AWS and drive adoption of a cloud‑first strategy.
  • Optimize AWS services (EC2, S3, ECS, ELB, CloudFront, CloudWatch) for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, GitHub, and AWS CodePipeline.
  • Manage environments, troubleshoot production issues, and resolve incidents with development and QA teams.
  • Maintain clear, user‑friendly documentation of infrastructure, systems, and processes.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and automation practices to proactively identify issues.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment via Ansible, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
  • Harden servers and services to improve security and ensure compliance with data protection standards.
  • Provide rotational after‑hours support as part of the DevOps team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of hands‑on DevOps experience with deep focus on AWS environments.
  • Expertise in AWS services, migrations, optimizations, and cost management.
  • Proficient in Bash and Python for automation and scripting.
  • Extensive experience with Ansible, Terraform, and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Solid experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, and AWS CodePipeline.
  • Hands‑on experience with monitoring tools such as New Relic, Nagios, and Amazon CloudWatch.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive problem‑solving mindset.
  • Proven ability to contribute to initiatives that foster innovation and drive impactful change.
