Job description
Duties
  • Provide person-centered support promoting self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.
  • Ensure safety, dignity, and compliance with legislation, policies, and standards of practice.
  • Implement evidence-based behavioral plans and adapt strategies for learning, life skills, and vocational training.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and social networks to achieve person-directed goals.
  • Communicate effectively through written, oral, and electronic formats; document incidents and progress accurately.
  • Respond to crises and emergencies, conducting safety checks and reporting per policy.
  • Support health and wellness within role limits, encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal. 
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royals Anti-Racism, Harassment and Discrimination Free Policy 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of OSSD and Developmental Service Worker diploma.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a hospital or community setting with persons with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
  • CPI/TCI, Mental Health First Aid and Quality Assurance Measures training preferred.
  • CPR certification or recertification within the last 12 months
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and valid G driver’s license for day-to-day operations 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression/comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
