The Senior Design Lead will be responsible for providing design leadership and creative direction for high-profile institutional and civic architecture projects.

This role requires exceptional design expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and guide design teams in creating innovative and transformative architectural solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and guide the design process from concept ideation to project realization for complex institutional and civic architecture projects.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand project goals, user needs, and design requirements.
  • Champion design excellence within the firm, promoting a culture of innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive design charrettes, workshops, and presentations to communicate design concepts and inspire project teams and stakeholders.
  • Review and critique design proposals, offering insightful feedback to elevate design quality and alignment with project objectives.
  • Ensure design solutions are responsive to site context, environmental sustainability, and user experience.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in institutional and civic architecture.
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines, including landscape architects, interior designers, and engineers, to achieve holistic design outcomes.
  • Mentor and nurture design talent within the firm, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
  • Play an active role in business development activities, including proposal writing, client presentations, and fostering client relationships.
  • Oversee the development of design deliverables and documentation, adhering to project timelines and budgets.
  • Act as a key spokesperson for the firm's design philosophy, both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in architectural design, with a strong focus on institutional and civic architecture projects in Canada.
  • A robust and diverse portfolio showcasing significant contributions to high-profile institutional and civic projects.
  • Proven leadership experience in guiding and managing the design process from concept to construction.
  • Exceptional design and visualization skills, with proficiency in relevant design software and tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards applicable to institutional and civic architecture.
  • Outstanding leadership qualities and the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor design teams.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating design concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A commitment to sustainable design practices and a passion for creating transformative architectural solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while upholding design excellence and meeting project goals.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design principles and LEED certification is a plus.
