Role Overview

The Cyber Security Specialist will support the organization’s cyber security posture by implementing, monitoring, and enhancing advanced security controls across on-premises and cloud environments. This role focuses on threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and regulatory compliance, ensuring alignment with recognized cybersecurity frameworks and standards. This is an onsite, staff-augmentation professional services role.

Responsibilities
  • Strengthen enterprise cyber security posture through implementation and monitoring of advanced security controls
  • Configure and operate security technologies across cloud and enterprise environments
  • Monitor security alerts, investigate incidents, and support incident response activities
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate cybersecurity risks across network, endpoint, and cloud platforms
  • Ensure compliance with industry cybersecurity frameworks and standards
  • Analyze system logs, alerts, and forensic data to identify threats and vulnerabilities
  • Support automation and response workflows using scripting and orchestration tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate security risks, findings, and mitigation strategies
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience
  • Education & Experience:
    • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or a related field
    • Equivalent combination of education and extensive professional cybersecurity experience will be considered
    • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in IT security or cybersecurity operations
    • Experience supporting security monitoring and incident response
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure security, Microsoft Defender suite, and Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM)
    • Experience with vulnerability management platforms such as Tenable One
    • Ability to configure tools for threat detection, analysis, and automated response
    • Proficiency in PowerShell, JSON, Kusto Query Language (KQL), Logic Apps, or similar scripting/language tools
  • Frameworks & Methodologies:
    • Strong knowledge of NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO/IEC 27001/27002, and relevant CSA standards
    • Solid understanding of incident response methodologies and best practices
  • Security Clearance:
    • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Level II (Secret) Security Clearance
Desired / Preferred Experience
  • Experience in highly regulated or critical infrastructure environments (energy utilities, nuclear, etc.)
  • Familiarity with SCADA/ICS environments and industrial cybersecurity challenges
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and mentor team members
Certifications (Strongly Desired)
  • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
  • CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
  • GIAC (SANS Institute) certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate or similar vendor credentials

  • Incident investigation reports and post-incident lessons learned documentation
  • Vulnerability assessment reports and remediation tracking (Tenable One)
  • Security posture and compliance metrics, including Azure Secure Score dashboards
  • Compliance documentation aligned to NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and CSA standards
  • Updated cybersecurity artifacts such as policies, SOPs, network diagrams, and system security plans
