What you’ll be doing:
Reporting to the Director, Information Systems & Chief Information Officer, this senior advisory position is responsible for providing guidance and direction for the day-to-day delivery of cybersecurity functions at the City of Moncton. This includes both strategic and functional work to mitigate cybersecurity risks, implementing security measures, and responding to incidents related to cybersecurity. A high level of business and technical understanding across a broad range of technologies is required in this position, including enterprise hardware, software applications, cybersecurity, and networking. The position evaluates how technology is currently implemented and being used by the corporation to provide recommendations for securing the digital environment, including systems that are hosted in alternate locations while keeping future technology requirements in mind. Cybersecurity needs to be focused on throughout the lifecycle of any technical solutions, from procurement to sunset. Other responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and definition of cybersecurity processes, tools, systems, and enhancements of existing systems
- Providing direction, knowledge, and guidance to Information Systems to ensure the most secure implementation of systems, networks, and information security systems
- Working directly with Technology and Infrastructure and the Business Solutions teams to ensure cybersecurity processes are adhered to when implementing technology
- Establishing and maintaining good relationships with technology vendors and solutions providers
- Conducting regular vulnerability assessments on systems, networks, and applications
- Collaborating with IT teams to address and remediate identified vulnerabilities in a timely manner
- Working with Information Systems and City departments to initiate, participate in and manage projects relating to the City’s cybersecurity posture
- Leading and assisting the Information Systems teams in researching and evaluating cybersecurity solutions
- Implementing, monitoring, and maintaining endpoint security software platforms and endpoint agents
- Maintaining professional and technical knowledge through ongoing education, research, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, attending vendor presentations, conferences, and participating in professional societies
- Training city staff on cybersecurity best practices and promoting a culture of security awareness
- Staying current with the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape by keeping abreast of industry trends through vendor presentations, conferences, and ongoing training sessions.
What we are looking for:
- A university degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. CISSP certification is required, or candidates must be actively working toward certification
- 2+ years of cybersecurity experience along with 5+ years of progressively senior-level experience in planning, deploying, and managing enterprise technologies, including information security, risk management, enterprise cloud solutions (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), server virtualization, and virtual desktop technologies
- Experience with project management and leading medium to large-scale information systems projects
- Experience leading or participating in internal cybersecurity audits
- Knowledge of enterprise architectural frameworks
- Extensive knowledge of enterprise systems, networking, and software integration
- Knowledge through experience planning, managing, and/or administering:
- Windows Server, Active Directory, ADFS
- Microsoft 365 / Azure AD
- Enterprise networking
- Virtualized systems including cloud environments
- A strong ability to influence, teach, and communicate on an appropriate technical level with all levels within the corporation. Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to solve complex IT issues, analyze information, and apply logic to address work-related problems
- Relationship building is an integral part of this role, requiring regular contact with employees across departments, management, and external stakeholders, including vendors. The role collaborates regularly with Information Systems Team Leads and must be able to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- The ability to communicate in the French language would be an asset
