Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review import documentation including commercial invoices and bills of lading.
  • Monitor duty and tariff classifications, ensuring accurate application of HS codes.
  • Track and analyze landed costs, duty payments, and other import-related expenses.
  • Maintain free trade agreements (e.g., USMCA/CUSMA).
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team, keeping up to date with CARM portal transactions.
  • Prepare and/or review export documentation including CERS documents and CFIA health charts.
  • Track and analyze outbound costs and other export-related expenses.
  • Prepare all outbound courier shipments.

About the Role

We are currently looking for a Customs Specialist to fill a new role and join our Distribution Team. Reporting to the Warehouse & Distribution Manager, this role will be responsible for working with various logistics vendors (brokers, couriers and trucking companies) to ensure imported shipments into Canada are set up properly and all rules and regulations are followed as set out by various government agencies. This is an in‑person role requiring 5 days per week in our Guelph location.

This position offers a minimum starting salary of $49,400.00, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.

What You Will Do:
  • Prepare and review import documentation including commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificate or origin and other necessary documentation needed by CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency)
  • Monitor duty and tariff classifications, ensuring accurate application of harmonization System (HS) codes
  • Track and analyze landed costs, duty payments and other import‑related expenses
  • Maintain free trade agreements (eg.USMCA/CUSMA)
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team, keeping up to date with CARM (CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management) portal transactions
  • Prepare and/or review export documentation including CERS (Canada Export Reporting System) documents, CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) health charts, commercial invoices, pack slips, CSCD (Canadian Secure Cargo Declaration) documents and any other documents required
  • Track and analyze outbound costs, and other export‑related expenses
  • Prepare all outbound courier shipments
What You Need to Succeed:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate in logistics or customs
  • Minimum 2 years experience collaborating with customs, freight forwarders, brokers and government agencies
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, and effective communication skills
