Job summary

A healthcare organization in Nova Scotia is seeking a registered nurse for Critical Care nursing. The successful candidate will provide direct care to patients/residents, with a focus on safety and quality improvement. Qualifications include a BC Nursing registration, two years of Critical Care experience, and advanced skills in arrhythmia interpretation. This role requires effective communication and the ability to work under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation with 75% score on VIHA ECG Challenge exam.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is an asset.

Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience and/or an accredited Critical Care course. Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam. Advanced Cardiac Life Support is an asset.

Echocardiography nurse positions also require:

  • Training in transesophageal echocardiography, cardioversions and procedural sedation, plus two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required for Echocardiography nurse positions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents and families.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
