Job summary

Cook

In this role you will:

  • Prepare a wide variety of foods through standard volume commercial cooking methods, using commercial cooking equipment, ensuring adherence to prescribed menus, work schedules and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food services area, equipment, and utensils.
  • Assist in the receiving and stocking of food items.
  • Assist with inventory of supplies.
  • Perform other duties related to the operation of a large school cafeteria.
  • Work on-call hours as required.
What you bring to the team
Knowledge and Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of food preparation, storage techniques and proper kitchen equipment operations, normally acquired through post‑secondary education in chef/cook training or related work experience.
  • Completed Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Demonstrated experience cooking large quantities of hot foods and preparing foods for individuals with special dietary needs.
  • Experience operating commercial/institutional food preparation equipment.
  • Knowledge of nutritional principles to assist in planning menus.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Work
  • Ability to work shifts and perform physical work.
