The Contaminated Sites Specialist - Environmental Scientist, Geoscientist or Engineer in the Brownfield Assessment and Development Service Group is responsible for enhancing MEMS' services through technical excellence, project execution, and delivery. The role involves applying technical expertise in contaminated sites assessment and risk assessment within Ontario and other Canadian jurisdictions as appropriate.

The primary focus is the successful completion of projects and ensuring client satisfaction, aligned with MEMS' corporate strategy, mission, values, goals, and objectives. This is an advanced role requiring high-quality project management and technical skills, with an emphasis on building long-term client relationships that foster repeat business and service expansion. Additionally, supporting the technical and career development of junior and intermediate staff within the service group is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical Engagement and Growth: Providing technical direction and mentorship for complex contaminated site assessment and risk projects, including developing work scopes, reviewing files, analyzing data, developing site models, interpreting data, and creating site-specific guidelines. Leading risk assessment projects and participating in groundwater modeling and expanding technical capabilities are also key.
  • Portfolio & Client Management: Contributing to client growth plans, managing diverse projects and clients, maintaining stakeholder communication, and supporting business development activities.
  • Mentorship and Training: Identifying skill gaps, developing training programs, mentoring staff, and collaborating internally to build effective teams.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience in site assessments and reclamation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Membership in a professional organization such as APGO or PEO.
  • Ability to meet site access requirements, including drug and alcohol testing, and hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Additional Skills and Knowledge:
  • Understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation and site assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of Ontario regulatory guidance and risk-based solutions.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ability to work independently or in teams.
Working Conditions:

Flexible office and remote work environment with some fieldwork, extended computer use, physical activity, and occasional travel and irregular hours.
