Job Description

The Compositing Supervisor plays a central role in the artistic and technical integration of the shots delivered by the 2D team. As the guardian of visual quality and methodology, they work closely with the VFX and CG Supervisors, production, and the art direction team to ensure that all deliverables align with the project’s overall vision.
Both a hands‑on expert, mentor, workflow manager, and interdisciplinary point of contact, they rally their team around high standards while ensuring thorough planning and smooth execution of all assigned tasks.

Main Responsibilities
Creative Quality
  • Translate the project’s artistic vision into clear, actionable direction for compositing artists.

  • Lead daily reviews, assess internal versions, and guide artists toward a high level of creative execution.

  • Collaborate with the VFX and CG Supervisors to address complex visual challenges and maintain harmony between departments.

  • Propose achievable artistic solutions that take technical, budgetary, or production constraints into account.

  • Actively participate in the development or execution of key shots or complex sequences.

Technical Quality
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous technical methodology that aligns with the Rodeo FX pipeline.

  • Validate script compliance, render optimization, and the cleanliness of all deliverables.

  • Contribute to the creation and documentation of compositing tools or templates.

  • Oversee shot continuity and ensure the overall technical quality of the work.

  • Work closely with other departments to identify and resolve technical issues quickly.

Leadership & Communication
  • Mentor, motivate, and support artists throughout the project.

  • Communicate objectives, feedback, and expectations clearly during briefs, daily reviews, and one‑on‑one check‑ins.

  • Maintain composure during high‑pressure periods, make informed decisions, and escalate issues to the appropriate teams (production, supervision, HR, etc.) when necessary.

  • Foster a healthy, collaborative work environment aligned with Rodeo FX’s values.

  • Support team development, identify training needs, and share knowledge.

Project Management
  • Take part in bidding, artist casting, and delivery planning alongside production.

  • Monitor shot progress, anticipate potential bottlenecks, and adjust priorities as needed.

  • Act quickly when deviations from objectives, standards, or professional ethics arise.

  • Provide ongoing performance feedback, support evaluations, and contribute to talent development.

  • Assist production with bid preparation and delivery documentation when required.

Workflow Strategies
  • Optimize existing processes and propose more efficient methods to enhance team performance.

  • Ensure that tools, templates, and procedures are up to date, well documented, and understood by all.

  • Actively participate in the evolution of the compositing pipeline based on project and team needs.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, simplification, or technical development.

  • Contribute to the harmonization of practices across projects and departments.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a compositing supervisor within the visual effects industry

  • Strong experience in team supervision or project management

  • Excellent mastery of Nuke; knowledge of Flame is an asset

  • Good understanding of Flow and VFX production pipelines

  • Advanced skills in color, lighting, perspective, photography, and 2D/3D element integration

  • Natural leadership with the ability to mentor teams with both rigor and empathy

  • Strong communication skills, organizational sense, and resilience under pressure

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to propose concrete and innovative solutions

  • Asset: experience in tool or template development, client presentations, or contributing to pipeline evolution
