Job description

Community Education Officer

There are currently four (4) casual or fixed‑term opportunities available for six (6) to twelve (12) months for immediate appointment, with the possibility of extension or permanency, subject to funding. Additional opportunities will become available later in 2026.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Are you keen to explore Western Australia, inspire young minds, and get paid for it? The Road Safety Commission is rolling out a high‑energy education program across secondary schools, and we’re looking for passionate people to help deliver it. This role is all about shaping the next generation of smart and safe road users by facilitating our flagship programs – Road Smart Kickstart and Road Smart Interactive – with cutting‑edge tools such as VR headsets, interactive tablets, and gamified learning to engage students in Years 7–9.

You’ll travel regularly to regional schools, set up and run program materials, support program development and evaluation, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver the full Everyday Safer suite of road safety education programs.

This opportunity suits graduates who are confident communicators, enjoy working with young people, and have an interest in education, arts, communications, health or science outreach. It’s a chance to combine travel, teamwork and technology while making a lasting difference in communities across WA.

SPECIALIST PRE‑REQUISITE

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a valid Working with Children Check.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please ensure you complete, sign and scan the Integrity Check Consent Form (refer attached) and submit it along with your application (the Integrity Check Consent Form is not required for current WA Police Force employees).

Applicants are required to provide confirmation of their availability for regional travel and possession of a current Drivers Licence.

Applicants are not required to address the work‑related requirements at this stage of the selection process.

Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.

It is important to note that your CV should be tailored to clearly outline that you possess transferrable skills and experience relevant to the advertised role. Your ability to demonstrate this will be a key factor in determining whether you are competitive.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work‑Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor / manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

We believe all our people are leaders irrespective of their role. We consider this as critical to our success and, to support this, we have adopted Leadership Expectations which provide a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector. The leadership context for this role is identified in the attached position description form.

Please note: For applicants deemed suitable, all Essential Work‑Related Requirements listed in the Position Description Form will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.

OTHER CONDITIONS

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the metropolitan area. In addition to this, should the successful applicants decline or vacate the advertised positions, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment.

Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
