Job description

Community Education & Engagement Officer 227147, 227148 & 227149 Level 5, $105,167 - $114,938 (PSCSAA 2024)

There are currently three (3) casual or fixed‑term opportunities available for up to eighteen (18) months for immediate appointment, with the possibility of extension / permanency subject to funding. Additional appointments will be made later in 2026.

Position Objective

This position is responsible for driving the delivery of the Everyday Safer suite of Road Smart education programs across Western Australia. The position leads community education initiatives by overseeing projects, plans, and events that promote a state‑wide approach to road safety engagement. As the team lead, you will liaise with government agencies, local authorities, schools, community organisations, and key stakeholders, ensuring the effective facilitation of programs such as Road Smart Kickstart and Road Smart Interactive. Through strategic planning, program development, and evaluation, you will work alongside your team to deliver innovative, technology‑driven education experiences across Western Australia that inspire young people and strengthen community awareness of road safety.

Specialist Pre‑Requirement

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a valid Working with Children Check.

Applicants are asked to address the following nominated work‑related requirements in no more than three (3) pages:

  • Project management skills – Initiating, managing and implementing projects related to the development of communications, marketing and educational strategies. Supporting the tender process, selecting and managing consultants and external service providers. Scheduling, organising and planning work/tasks to complete projects within timeframes. Ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Interpersonal skills – Building and sustaining positive relationships with team members and stakeholders. Involving others and recognising their contributions. Recognising the different working styles of individuals and factoring this into the management of relationships, people and tasks.

Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work‑Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor / manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Other Conditions

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the metropolitan area. In addition to this, should the successful applicants decline or vacate the advertised positions, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment.
