Job description

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves andthe development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Do you enjoy turning complex ideas into clear, impactful messages? The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking a Communications Officer in Yellowknife to help shape how we connect with the public, employees, and stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the development and implementation of communication plans and policies that align with GNWT guidelines,
  • Provide advice to departmental managers and staff regarding web, public relations, communications and media relations,
  • Collaborate with policy staff and program officers to support the overall communications strategy within the departments.

Key Qualifications:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, and two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • A diploma in a relevant field, such as Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, and four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • A certificate in a relevant field, such as Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, and four (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience can include, but is not limited to, Marketing and Communications.
