A healthcare organization located in Hanna, Alberta, is seeking a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I. The role involves performing laboratory procedures and diagnostic imaging, alongside collecting and analyzing samples. Candidates should have relevant diplomas and strong communication skills. The position offers a part-time opportunity with the possibility of on-call work, providing vital care in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Your Opportunity: Hanna, located 199 km from Red Deer, with a population of 3,000, offers residents a friendly, safe, small-town lifestyle and access to a wide range of recreational facilities. The Hanna Health Centre includes a 24-hour Emergency Department, a 17-bed Acute Care ward, and a 61-bed Long Term Care facility. This position provides high-quality direct patient care and performs manual and automated laboratory procedures, diagnostic imaging exams, cardiology procedures, and related duties in alignment with Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT) accreditation and relevant standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will work across shifts and provide on-call coverage with a 30-minute site response time when assigned.
As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X‑ray examinations, ECGs, and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies, and performing quality control procedures as required.

Recent, relevant experience as a Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologist performing procedures in a core laboratory and general diagnostic imaging, including hospital affiliated training programs. Laboratory experience includes hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation and referral of samples. Recent cardiology experience including ECG and Holter Monitor examinations. Strong communication in English and excellent customer service skills. Good organizational skills and the ability to assume responsibility. Ability to work independently as well as in a team, with initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations, prioritizing workload with tact and courtesy. Practices include radiation protection, infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Ability to interpret, explain, and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies, and procedures, while maintaining patient confidentiality. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Commitment to ongoing professional knowledge development. Receptive to new ideas and change. An excellent attendance record and reliability demonstrated through employment references.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with Sysmex XN-550, ACL Elite Pro, Vitros XT 3400, I-Stat, Triage Meter, Clinitek Status. Recent experience with ConnectCare, Agfa PEI, Muse, Cardioday, Connect Care, Wellsky, and Unity Real Time.
