Clerk A – Department: Community Services, Recreation Services
Designated Work Location: Pan Am Pool, 25 Poseidon Bay
Position Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
Salary: $1,249.30 - $1,770.23 biweekly as per the Clerk A Classification within the C.U.P.E Collective Agreement.

Job Profile

Under the general direction of the Pool Supervisor, the Clerk A provides clerical and administrative support for the Recreation Services Division, Aquatics Unit and is responsible for performing front-line customer service duties for the Administration Office and public on a daily basis; administering public admission entry requirements including program registration; performing cash transactions; reception duties; receiving and processing incoming mail; assisting with the preparation of annual statistical reports; filing and other clerical duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Provide quality citizen/customer service.
  • Greet or acknowledge in a timely & welcoming manner every customer.
  • Administer public admission entry requirements.
  • Receive and record cash/credit transactions including program registration.
  • Receive appropriate admissions for pool entry.
  • Receive telephone calls, take messages, answer routine questions regarding scheduling and pool programs or refer to appropriate source.
  • Maintain pool records, files and inventory.
  • Operate a variety of small office equipment and photocopying machines.
  • Administer first aid, as required.
  • Type documents as required.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with classification, as required.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
  • High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated basic proficiency in use of Microsoft software products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of POS/ Registration software (e.g. ActiveNet, etc.) or ability to attain within 3 months.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other staff members in person, by telephone and by email.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for office work.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, filing, and the operation of office machines.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and application of the Administrative Directive Citizen/Customer Service.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • St. John’s Ambulance First Aid Certificate or equivalent and Level C CPR or ability to obtain same within probationary period.
  • IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service available at canalliance.org.
