Reporting to the Manager - Operations Special Projects, the Chief Engineer - Operations Special Projects is responsible for oversight, and execution of operations-focused projects, including processing plant upgrades and infrastructure improvements at the mine site. This is a multidisciplinary role focused on delivering projects to operations that improve the overall safe production delivered. This role provides expert engineering guidance for projects, ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards, and drives innovation to enhance production efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

Schedule: Three (3) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
- Provide technical leadership for Operations Projects, including processing and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Lead the identification and assessment of potential operations projects, working with operations leadership, conducting risk assessments, and financial analysis to determine viability and ensure alignment of projects with long-term operational and expansion strategies.
- Develop engineering designs, specifications, and standards for project execution. With a focus on capabilities to complete in-house engineering improvements as well as working with external consultants as required.
- Expertise in contractor and consultant management to minimize cost and maximize deliverables.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables from internal teams and external contractors.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to evaluate project and improvement opportunities.
- Recommend upgrades to improve plant reliability, production, safety, efficiency, and water/tailings infrastructure.
- Conduct studies and risk assessments for proposed projects.
- Present clear and concise business cases that lead to executable scopes of work. Then manage those scopes to completions.
- Support the Manager – Special Operations Projects with defining scopes, schedules and budgets for operations projects.
- Capability to directly manage the execution of certain projects.
- Ensure engineering solutions align with operational goals and long-term mine plans.
- Oversee commissioning and integration of new systems into existing operations.
- Implement best practices for system integrity, process optimization, and sustainability.
- Liaise with and provide oversight to contractors, consultants and vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or mineral processing engineering or a related field.
- Registered or eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
- Minimum of 7-10+ years of engineering experience in the mining or natural resources sector with minimum 3 to 5 years experience in project execution.
- Specific expertise in design and optimization of operational fixed plant assets is a must.
- Proven experience in capital project design, execution, and commissioning.
- Familiarity with BC mining regulations and environmental compliance standards.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is an asset.

- Ability to seamlessly integrate within operations to support the leadership in improving safe production.

- Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Ability to work at a remote location camp on a rotational schedule.
- Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.
- Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
