Job description

Edison Properties is seeking a Caretaker who is responsible to maintain the interior and exterior of their assigned property, to ensure that it looks attractive, is clean and is in safe and operational condition. The Caretaker reports to the Resident Manager and will be a support to the Resident Manager as required. They live on-site and are responsible for on-call duties on rotation with the Resident Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Show apartments as required
  • Answer phone, handle inquiries when Resident Manager is unavailable or away for short periods of time.
  • All other duties as may be assigned by the Resident Manager
Security
  • Enforce “no parking” zones
  • Check security of building
  • Respond to any or all emergency related problems as requested by the Resident Manager
  • Lock/unlock laundry rooms/pool areas as required
Cleaning
  • Maintaining operating machinery such as garbage disposal, snow clearing equipment etc.
  • Maintain and clean common areas of the building such as lobby, entrances, stairwells, outside areas, pools/saunas (where applicable), parking areas, hallways, laundry rooms and elevators
  • Working in all types of weather conditions including extreme cold during the winter months to ensure snow clearing is complete and safety is maintained for all tenants. This will include application of sand / ice‑melt as required.
  • Adheres to schedules for cleaning and standards as set in conjunction with the Resident Manager and corporate standards.
  • Communicate any issues such as damage and proactively report potential areas where maintenance is required to ensure safety of tenants and guests
  • Maintain accurate logs where required this includes on‑call logs, snow clearing logs, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, reporting when they need to be reordered.
  • Assist maintenance as needed
  • Assist tenants and guests to ensure their needs are met and communicates any issues appropriately
Requirements
  • Experience: Applicable working experience in property management is considered an asset.
  • Managing multiple projects with little oversight
  • Using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Ability to physically perform cleaning and maintenance duties
  • On‑call duties as scheduled
  • Overtime may be required outside normal hours of work to accomplish duties, particularly during periods of heavy work requirements.
  • Must maintain clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
