The Opportunity

McElhanney has a rewarding opportunity for a junior/intermediate drafter to join our geomatics team in Calgary, AB. In this role, you will use computer-assisted design (CAD) to take preliminary data and produce, edit, and/or modify technically accurate drawings and plans that meet legal, client, and branch specifications. You will also perform point cloud extraction using cloud data platforms and AutoCAD products. This role is ideal for someone who wants to work with high-definition survey data such as scan data and drone imagery, as well as conventional survey data.

This position requires full-time, on-site work at our Calgary office to start. Future opportunities for a hybrid work arrangement may be available.

What You’ll Do
  • Complete assigned drafting duties using computer-assisted design (CAD) and create accurate drawings that follow company and project-specific standards and guidelines per the direction of the project manager.
  • Follow established practices and techniques to produce, edit, and modify standard drawings with technical accuracy from preliminary and surveyed data.
  • Be willing to learn scanning hardware and perform lease area measurements in Calgary and area.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines both internally and externally to complete projects.
  • Establish a good rapport and build relationships with peers by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all company policies including safety policies and WCB regulations.

What You’ll Bring
  • Diploma in computer aided drafting and design or similar program, plus up to 1 year experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to work with AutoCAD to a high degree of proficiency. Knowledge and experience with Trimble Business Centre and Global Mapper would be an asset but are not required.
  • Strong communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities and a willingness to work independently in a high-performing team atmosphere.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam software.
What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $65,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation commensurate with education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
