Job summary

A leading construction firm in Quebec is seeking a Buyer to join their Major Projects team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the entire procurement process and developing supplier relationships on large-scale projects ranging from $250 million to over $1 billion. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in procurement within the construction industry, have strong Excel skills, and a commitment to detail. Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in a similar position, ideally in construction or hardware operations.
  • Holder of an AEC in Supply Management and/or a DEC in Accounting and Management.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes in the construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire procurement process including bids and negotiations.
  • Stay updated on market trends relevant to asset categories.
  • Account for the P2P process and support administrative teams.

Overview

Ready to build your career? We want to hear from you. As a Buyer within Pomerleau’s Major Projects team, you will contribute to supply chain management and continuous improvement initiatives. Working on large-scale construction projects—ranging from $250million to over $1billion—you will play a key role in managing suppliers and procurement activities.

This role could be for you if you have the right combination of education, experience, and skills to support procurement in a construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the entire procurement process, from needs analysis, issuing requests for proposals (for products and services), evaluating supplier bids, conducting technical comparisons, making purchase recommendations, negotiating contractual agreements, and managing supplier relationships.
  • Stay up to date with market trends related to your asset categories.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the procure‑to‑pay (P2P) process and provide the necessary information to support administrative teams in creating assets in the system.
  • Be accountable and act as the subject‑matter expert for the categories under your responsibility; the incumbent is also responsible for their own professional development.
  • Receive purchase requests from Superintendents.
  • Handle the procurement of construction materials and equipment.
  • Prepare purchase orders.
  • Obtain approval for purchase orders.
  • Research innovative products and identify new suppliers for the project.
Qualifications
  • Holder of an AEC in Supply Management and/or a DEC in Accounting and Management, or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of experience in a similar position, in the construction industry and/or hardware store operations (strong asset)
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Knowledge of construction site materials and tools
  • Strong organizational and priority‑management skills
