SYLVIS is a leading Canadian residuals management consulting and contracting firm with the sole focus of researching, recommending and implementing beneficial residuals management. SYLVIS has extensive knowledge of residuals and a proven ability to implement residuals management programsin agriculture, mining, forestry and biomass plantations. SYLVIS’ mission is to Make Waste History by introducing residuals back into the environment for ecological and societal benefit. SYLVIS is searching for a Business Development Manager to contribute to increasing revenue growth through sales.

Mission of the Business Development Manager:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Business Development Manager is accountable for implementing the sales strategy to achieve revenue and profitability goals. This individual will identify sales and business development opportunities, nurture and grow new and existing client relationships and utilize SYLVIS’ proven processes and tools to realize opportunities withina long, complex sales cycle. The Business Development Manager has a proven track record working with municipalities, other governmental organizations, landowners, and other end users. A background in agriculture, composting, soils, agronomy, fertilizers, herbicides, reclamation, forestry, or related technical fields is an asset.

The Responsibilities:
  • Works with the GM and the BD team to execute tactics and processes required to deliver on the sales strategy
  • Champions and improves the sales strategy by winning new municipal and industrial generator contracts, and concurrently winning new landowners to beneficially use the residuals
  • Understands the competitive landscape, knows top competitors and market trends, makes strategic, data-driven decisions that capitalize on our differentiators and win new contracts
  • Accountable for ensuring the sales pipeline is accurate and predictable when forecasting net new revenue
  • Works well with technical sales team, develops instant rapport, moves past gate keepers, gets to decision makers
  • Maintains a deep understanding of clients’ needs and genuinely cares
  • Differentiates SYLVIS from the competition, continuously validates and improves the sales strategy by analyzing and interpreting reasons behind lost and won contracts
  • Works with project teams to develop large opportunities and build long-term and strategic relationships with new and existing clients
The Requirements:
  • 5+ years proven track record securing large, long-term contracts, which involvenavigating regulations, and operating within complex stakeholder networks.
  • Existing industry relationships such as residual generators, regulators, farmers, or other landowners (e.g. mines) is an asset
  • Has experience creating and improving a sales strategy, finding new opportunities, building key relationships and strategically growing sales pipelines, conveys excitement about the company brand and overall vision and culture
  • A natural collaborator who is outgoing demonstrates energy and a sense of urgency when fulfilling day-to-day responsibilities with sales, marketing and product development responsibilities
  • Clear, confident communicator who can engage both technical experts and non-technical landowners/clients, thrives in a collaborative, profit-sharing culture
  • Experience in building project budgets, writing technical proposals, and responding to RFPs
  • Methodical in building and managing a sales pipeline, disciplined with CRM use, and skilled at long-cycle relationship development, motivated by long-term shared success
  • Experience achieving quarterly sales targets, forecasting, reporting and KPIs, bases decisions on metrics, a continuous learner who strives for consistent improvement
  • Thrives within a dynamic entrepreneurial environment, wears multiple hats, has exceptional communication and organizational skills, provides meaningful contributions to regular sales team meetings and updates, develops an effective sales strategy, generates revenue through sales
  • Has advanced excel skills, able to travel in Canada and the USA
