A local governmental agency in Ontario is seeking a Building Administrative Student for a 4-month contract. The role involves assisting with front counter inquiries, managing building permit applications, and providing file management support. Job description
Position Description

Reporting to the Chief Building Official or designate, the incumbent will be expected to carry out a variety of tasks relating to various aspects of Building Department functions, such as but not limited to:

  • Assist with front counter, email, and telephone inquiries.
  • Assist Building administration staff with the coordination of building permit applications, development applications and inspection requests.
  • Provide records and file management assistance including but not limited to routine filing of various correspondence.
  • Provide administrative support for other departmental staff as required.
  • Undertake special projects, as assigned by the Chief Building Official or designate.
Qualifications
  • College or University Student enrolled in a discipline related to Office Administration, Architectural, Construction or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Valid province of Ontario Class “G” license and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a drivers abstract when requested during the recruitment process.
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office, Chrome, and BlueBeam. Preference given to students with advanced knowledge in specific programs such as CAD, GIS.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Basic understanding of municipal functions.
  • Excellent listening skills, coupled with a desire to learn new concepts.
  • Bring strong organization skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize, and multi-task.
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with the public, elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and community organizations, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in the general operation of office equipment, i.e. photocopier, fax, etc.
Note

Employment is conditional upon attendance at all required training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.

At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.

Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.
