As part of an audit team the Senior Performance Auditor assesses the performance of government organizations. This includes examining their efficiency, effectiveness, and economy based on compliance with relevant legislation and policy, good practices, and other criteria. They also assist in developing recommendations based on audit findings and drafting components of the final audit reports for submission to the Legislative Assembly.
Reporting to a Performance Audit Manager the Senior Performance Auditor executes procedures on audits of government organizations, exercising professional judgement and contributing to all phases of the audit under the direction of the audit manager.
The Senior Performance Auditor works with considerable independence and, where appropriate, reviews the work of less-experienced audit staff. They also provide coaching to ensure tasks are completed on time and meet office standards.
Education and Experience :
o Fields related to the mandate of the office include business accounting, law, economics, public administration, political science, environmental science, engineering, health, social services, or transportation.
o Must include one year of experience conducting performance audits or internal audits of public sector entities.
o Additional experience can include work on program evaluations, policy, legal or legislative analysis, and/or applied research.
o Proven ability to complete assignments on time and within budget while meeting expectations for quality.
o Provides effective feedback to coach, develop and motivate less-experienced audit staff.
o Identifies and escalates team conflicts, performance and other issues if/when they arise.
o Demonstrated ability to establish a positive inclusive and collaborative team culture.
o Works with auditees to coordinate activities.
o Embraces diversity and works as part of a culture of inclusion.
o Communicates clearly, fairly, and objectively with external parties, team members and supervisors.
o Presents basic information to auditees when supported by senior staff.
o Demonstrates good practices in documentation to maximize quality and efficiency.
o Writes in a manner that ensures work is clear, concise, logical and persuasive.
o Applies different information-gathering and analytic techniques to identify audit findings, conclusions and underlying causes.
o Applies sound judgement to complex analysis and adapts audit procedures to address risk.
o Awareness of CPA standards for assurance engagements.
o Applies the offices audit methodology.
o Able to learn and use new technologies and audit tools as they become available.
o Knowledge of provincial government and public administration.
