In the role of Assistant Project Manager, we'll count on you to :

  • Reporting to the Canada Rail Lead, provide engineering, technical, and management support to the Rail Group
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, design packages, and tender documentation
  • Embrace project management principles and successfully manage multiple projects and clients
  • Oversee preparation of detailed design drawings for rail and civil projects that meets client and HDR quality standards
  • Prepare and review computer 3D and 2D models, and resultant plans, cross sections, quantities and other deliverables
  • Provide quality control on design and construction projects
  • Be able to supervise a project team, ensuring the quality of work and compliance with the regulations, laws and standards;
  • Provide technical support during the construction of structures and coordinate the work supervision;
  • Participate in the planning stages, design and construction of the project;
  • Prepare reports on the execution of the work and follow the schedule;
  • Participate in the activities of cost estimates and recommend payments;
  • Participate in the preparation of technical specifications and bidding documents and assist in the analysis of bids;
  • Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations in health and safety on construction sites;
  • Perform detailed technical analysis, interpret data, make summaries and draft reports;
  • Visit construction sites to ensure the quality of the work and to carry out inspections.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of transportation / rail & civil experience
  • Experience coordinating projects
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and cost control
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and willingness to get involved in planning, design, and construction as projects dictate
  • Team player who is willing and eager to lead multi-disciplinary projects and proposals to grow the business
  • Demonstrates analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
  • Works independently with limited guidance
  • Experience with project financial reporting systems, accounting principles, spreadsheets, report writing and basic knowledge of Occupational, Health and Safety legislation
  • Some skill in utilizing Civil 3D and CADD
  • Willingness for periodic travel and site visits
  • Experience with construction management and field inspections
  • Firm understanding of Canadian class 1 railway, and AREMA standards
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
