Job Overview
The Assistant Construction Manager supports the Construction Project Manager, Site Manager, and EPC leadership with day-to-day execution of EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) projects. This role contributes to managing safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, documentation, and field operations across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and construction projects. Projects span multiple industries, including aviation, commercial buildings, electrical transmission & distribution, facilities, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process, and water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost, contracts, and field activities.
- Adhere to company safety programs and collaborate with project teams to manage Safety & Health performance.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and support proposal- and project-related client interactions.
- Assist with project risk reviews and coordinate with Legal as needed.
- Support development and execution of Project Execution Plans, Quality Assurance Plans, Safety & Health Plans, Procurement Plans, and Staffing Plans.
- Contribute to negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
- Support site mobilization and demobilization planning and execution.
- Secure and track required project permits.
- Prepare and support RFPs, bid evaluations, subcontractor selection, and contract award processes.
- Execute downstream contract administration including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, change management, and claims mitigation.
- Support project cost reporting, scheduling, WBS development, progress tracking, and closeout activities.
- Prepare and present project status updates covering risks, schedule, costs, and cash flow.
- Support invoicing processes for prime contracts, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Maintain project documentation, filing systems, and compliance records.
- Verify insurance, licensing, and regulatory compliance for contractors and suppliers.
- Support safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
- Assist with materials management, inventory control, storage, and transportation.
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Site Managers to ensure subcontractor compliance.
- Facilitate project turnover, warranties, and closeout documentation.
- Support labor planning, craft onboarding, workforce compliance, and training initiatives.
- Analyze labor rates, crew productivity, unit rates, and earned value metrics.
- Manage construction equipment inventory to support project execution.
- Perform other duties as assigned in compliance with company policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent relevant experience.
- 3+ years of relevant construction experience.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage large workloads and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to meet company driving requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software.
- Multi-year experience on construction sites or program management in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, T&D, transportation, or water sectors.
