Job Description

Our law firm's School Law Practice, within the Public Schools and Education Department, is seeking an experienced attorney with a focus on special education matters. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience representing school districts in various aspects of special education, including litigation involving the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and representation in mediations and due process hearings before the Office of Administrative Law. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of education-related matters beyond special education.

Essential Functions
  • Minimum five years’ experience in special education litigation, including IEP development, representation in mediations, and due process hearings
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work professionally with school administrators, court officials, judges, attorneys, parents, and maintain effective working relationships
  • Research and interpret facts and laws related to intricate special education programs and situations. Perform analysis and provide opinions on highly complex issues impacting clients
  • Research and prepare memoranda on a variety of legal issues
  • Represent clients in legal proceedings, including court appearances, mediations, hearings, and meetings
  • Maintain a high level of proficiency in the most current and advanced legal techniques
Requirements
  • Law degree from an accredited law school with admission to the relevant Bar
  • Minimum of five years of legal experience in school and special education law. Experience in special education, general labor relations, and negotiations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and establish work priorities
  • Ability to work within established systems and processes, collaborating extensively with other attorneys, paralegals, and office staff
  • Work to generate new clients through individual and firm-wide networking and marketing efforts
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial spirit, committed to staying current with the latest legal techniques
