The Architectural Technologist will be a highly motivated team player with a solid understanding of building codes, systems, components, and construction processes, particularly for Health care projects. With strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, this individual will collaborate under the direction of the Architect and/or Job Captain to prepare and assemble working drawings, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through construction. The role will include developing solutions for technical and design challenges and coordinating efforts with project team members.

  • Regularly review and communicate project status with the team.
  • Collaborate with HDR’s integrated team to identify design objectives, innovative solutions, and sustainable practices.
  • Assist the design team in developing detailed concepts and translating them into clear Design and Construction Documents.
  • Conduct product research, assist project designers with material selection, and exchange information on architectural materials and methods.
  • Participate in team meetings to address technical issues, monitor progress, and complete QA/QC reviews.
  • Support construction administration, including field reviews, coordination, and issuance of change orders and clarifications.
  • Contribute to drawing packages for deliverables, such as permit submissions and construction documents.
  • Inform product selection, including building components and systems.
  • Engage with client representatives to verify design requirements and ensure quality deliverables.
  • Review reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.

Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a Revit skills assessment to demonstrate their proficiency with Revit software and related design tasks. Accommodations will be made available upon request.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized Architectural Technology program
  • 5 or more years of Canadian experience in a Technologist position
  • Registered Architectural Technologist with AIBC
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Revit is required.
  • Organized and able to work under time constraints.
  • Proficient with building envelope detailing.
  • Flexible and able to work with a variety of project teams.
  • Strong written and oral skills in English are required.

Candidates without an Architectural Technologist designation will be titled "Design Technician 2"

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years related industry experience
  • Technically qualified with 3D design software and document management infrastructure
  • Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
  • Experience with 3D Coordination tools
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits are essential
  • Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts
