Job summary

A local mental health organization in London is seeking an Addiction and Mental Health Worker to support women experiencing homelessness and mental health issues. This full-time, permanent role involves assisting clients in achieving their personal goals and providing crisis intervention. Candidates must have a social science degree, relevant field experience, and a valid Driver’s License. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required. Overview

Addiction and Mental Health Worker, Nicole's Choice – Direct Service - (OPSEU). Full-time, Permanent (Benefitted). London, Ontario (London Zone). Application Deadline: September 30, 2025.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. PVSC processing times in the City of London are currently about 3 weeks. Offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

What we’re offering
  • Starting pay – Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated).
  • Wage progression – Successful candidates registered with designated professional colleges will receive the wage differential for regulation. External applicants start at Level 1 with progression up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour non-regulated, $37.26 per hour regulated). Internal applicants: grid level placement per the Collective Agreement.
  • Schedule – 70 hours biweekly; Monday–Friday 9am–5pm with rotating weekends.
  • Pension – Immediately enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
  • Benefits – After a 90-day waiting period, enrollment in extended healthcare benefits.
Responsibilities
  • Work with clients and help motivate/support them to work towards achievement of their goals.
  • Champion each client’s capacity for independent community living.
  • Assist clients to maintain suitable housing.
  • Facilitate and implement resident meetings.
  • Provide health teaching about addiction, mental illness and symptom management.
  • Crisis intervention and prevention.
  • Assist and coach clients in learning and managing activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, daily chores, budgeting, socialization, etc.
  • Advocate for and support clients in accessing community resources.
  • Documentation related to clients.
  • Ensure effective communication with Director, Managers, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning each participant’s progress.
  • Identify, promote resolution, and management of all emergency situations concerning participants, staff, and property.
  • Make decisions both independently and collaboratively.
What you’ll need to apply

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements – Successful candidates must have a PVSC completed in the last six months. PVSCs in the City of London take about 3 weeks to process; offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

Qualifications

  • University/college degree or diploma in social science, or a related field. Primary proof of credentials required during hiring (original degree/diploma or official transcript).
  • Experience working in the addiction and mental health field.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle with $2 million liability insurance to transport clients.
  • Ability to attend work regularly.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
  • Experience working in residence settings.
  • Health and safety knowledge; knowledge of safe food handling procedures.
  • Crisis intervention and prevention.
  • Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training (ASIST).
  • First Aid & CPR.
  • Bilingual (English and French) preferred; preference given to candidates proficient in both official languages of Canada.
