McElhanney Women in Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes the contributions of people who identify as women at McElhanney. It aims to inspire and celebrate future women leaders in Engineering and Engineering Technology, while promoting equal opportunities for career growth. The ideal candidate identifies as a woman, demonstrates strong leadership within their community, and is enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or graduate program with a passion for a career in an Engineering or Engineering Technology discipline applicable to McElhanney.

Selected recipient who is completing an education program is awarded up to $5,000 to use toward tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (on-campus accommodations) and includes a direct internship opportunity.

Important dates: Applications open September 15, 2025 and close November 2, 2025.

In addition to the scholarship, candidates are encouraged to apply for internship or new graduate opportunities during McElhanney’s regular recruitment cycles (winter, summer, and fall). Opportunities are promoted through campus communications at most post-secondary institutions and on McElhanney’s website.

One recipient will be selected. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized groups, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and other equity-deserving groups.   • You have a passion for advancing and promoting women and equity in your community.
  • You have demonstrated resilience, determination, and creativity in overcoming challenges.
  • You are enrolled in a diploma or degree program and have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education at an accredited Canadian institution in one of the listed career paths.
  • You are seeking an internship opportunity while completing your education in Engineering disciplines (see applicable programs above).

Application Instructions

A complete application must be submitted on or before the deadline and include:

  • An updated resume
  • A personal statement of 1-2 pages addressing the following questions:
    • How have you promoted women and equity on your campus and in your community, and what impact have you had?
    • What challenges have you faced as a woman pursuing engineering, and how did you overcome them?
    • Why should you be selected for the scholarship?
    • How would this scholarship support your career plans?

When answering these questions, you may describe how your studies or future work in Engineering will contribute to advancing women in the industry, or provide any other information that elevates your candidacy.
