BASIC FUNCTION:

The Postdoctoral Fellow in Economics will conduct independent and collaborative research
focusing on race, equity, and inequality, particularly as they impact African American and
African/African diasporic communities in the U.S. and abroad. This position is in-person and based within the Center for an Equitable Economy and Sustainable Society at Howard
University.


SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

May supervise or mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research activities.


NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts: Faculty, students, and research staff in the Center and College of Arts and
Sciences.
External contacts: Research collaborators, academic institutions, and professional
organizations.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Pursue independent and collaborative research projects related to race, equity, and
inequality.
• Develop and maintain a productive research agenda resulting in peer-reviewed
publications.
• Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with Center faculty.
• Mentor and support graduate and undergraduate students in research activities.
• Participate as an affiliate of the Center for an Equitable Economy and Sustainable Society.
• Optional opportunity to teach economics courses (not a requirement).
• Contribute to proposal development and dissemination of research findings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Expertise in economic issues related to race, inequality, and equity.
• Strong interest or experience in health economics (preferred).
• Demonstrated research skills and publication potential.
• Proficiency in Stata, R, and applied econometric methods.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Doctorate in Economics or related field from an accredited institution, earned within
the last 2 years.
• Record or potential for scholarly publications and academic mentorship.
• Effective organizational and communication skills.

• Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative research software (e.g., Stata, R).
