Job Title: Material Engineer – High Rise Construction
Job Overview
The Material Engineer for High Rise Construction will be responsible for selecting, testing, and managing construction materials to ensure the safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness of high-rise projects.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in sourcing and evaluating materials, in-depth knowledge of material properties, and experience working with complex high-rise structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Select and specify appropriate construction materials (e.g., concrete, steel, aggregates, and composite materials) for high-rise structures.
- Evaluate the performance of materials under different environmental conditions to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety regulations.
- Conduct material tests (compression, tensile, durability, and chemical testing) to validate the quality and suitability of materials.
- Ensure all materials meet local and international standards, including ASTM, BS, and ISO requirements.
- Coordinate with third-party testing agencies to validate test results and issue compliance certificates.
- Evaluate and approve suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery capabilities.
- Monitor material delivery schedules and resolve any supply chain issues that may impact project timelines.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure proper handling, storage, and use of materials according to the project requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot material-related issues that arise during construction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Material Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Material Engineer in high-rise or large-scale construction projects.
- Proficiency in material testing procedures and standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, ACI).
- Familiarity with construction management software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Primavera).
