Overview
Nibras International School is looking for a qualified Social Studies Teacher to join the team in August 2026. All staff share responsibility to ensure that children are safe and properly supervised. Job Purpose
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils: maintain a safe and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect; set goals that stretch pupils of all backgrounds and abilities; demonstrate the positive attitudes and behaviours expected of pupils.
- Promote positive progress and outcomes with/for pupils through: accountability of attainment, progress and outcomes; awareness of pupils capabilities and prior knowledge; guidance of pupils to reflect on progress and emerging needs; understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts teaching; encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own work and study.
- Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge: sound knowledge of the relevant subject and curriculum; sustain pupil interest; understand developments in the subject and promote the value of scholarship; promote high standards of literacy and Standard English; demonstrate understanding of systematic phonics (if teaching early reading); demonstrate appropriate strategies for teaching early mathematics.
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons: impart knowledge, develop understanding, promote a love of learning and intellectual curiosity; set homework when appropriate; plan out-of-class activities to consolidate knowledge; reflect on the effectiveness of lessons; contribute to an engaging curriculum within the subject area.
- Differentiate and adapt teaching to meet the needs of all pupils: enable effective teaching through differentiation; understand and overcome factors that inhibit learning; adapt teaching for different development stages and needs, including those with special educational needs, high ability, English as an additional language, disabilities, and other considerations.
- Make accurate and productive use of assessment: assess relevant subject areas, use formative and summative assessment to secure progress; use data to monitor progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons; give regular feedback and encourage responses to feedback.
- Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment: establish clear rules and routines; maintain high expectations of behaviour; employ strategies using praise, sanctions and rewards; manage classes to engage and motivate pupils; maintain professional relationships and act decisively when necessary.

- Communicate openly with parents about attainment and progress; maintain confidentiality where appropriate.
- Model best academic practice and contribute to department discussions.
- Contribute to after-school activities as required and support school-community partnerships, including events that may occur outside regular hours.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks as requested by management.
Teaching
- Plan and prepare schemes of work and planning documentation.
- Teach effectively, considering students’ individual educational needs.
- Set and mark work both in school and remotely as appropriate.
- Promote and guide the holistic development of students across academic, social and personal aspects.
- Keep records of and report on the personal and social needs of students.
- Participate in school development and share best practice.
Assessment, Recording and Reporting
- Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment of students.
- Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references.
- Guide students to set targets to improve and provide regular feedback to support next steps.
Continuing Professional Development
- Keep methods of teaching under review and take accountability for own development.
- Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development.
Curriculum Development
- Advise and cooperate on the development of courses, teaching materials, schemes, methods and assessment; embed UAE heritage and culture within the curriculum.
- Take responsibility for specific subjects.
Position Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies
Experience: 2 years of school-based teaching experience

- Strong knowledge and experience of international/American curriculum.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
