ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Portfolio Management is in charge of overseeing the management of the project portfolio and ensuring that it aligns with the company's strategy and financial business plan. This role will have a significant impact on our company's success. The Senior Manager develops and implements portfolio management processes, establishes standards and reports, and presents the portfolio's status, prioritization, and challenges to Executive Management. Additionally, they provide support to the VP-PMO and the entire PMO team in delivering the best value to the organization.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Manage the portfolio management process to ensure that it runs effectively and smoothly.
  • Being a subject matter expert on portfolio management and, as such, is the chief architect and process owner of the portfolio management process supporting the design and development of the following organisational capabilities:
  • Support Ideation – The goal is to collect the best ideas from the organisation to generate higher-quality projects.
  • Work Intake – refers to supporting the business in developing a project proposal into a full business case and bringing it to the governance committees for review and ultimately a go/no-go capex investment decision.
  • Phase–Gate enhances a governance structure for evaluating, authorising, and monitoring projects as they progress through the project lifecycle.
  • Prioritisation – the process of evaluating project value to assign resources to the most critical projects and start work at the appropriate time including program/project complexity, strategic value and impact on existing portfolio.
  • Portfolio Optimisation – refers to optimisation techniques used to identify the optimal grouping of projects that maximise the risk‑adjusted portfolio value at a given budgetary level
  • Portfolio Planning – the process to optimise the sequencing and timing of approved projects based on resource constraints and project interdependencies
  • Resource Capacity Planning – the process of comparing future resource utilisation of project resources against available capacity to do work
  • Portfolio Risk Management – assesses the risk nature of projects and manages portfolio‑level risks, issues and lessons learned to proactively manage risk profile
  • Portfolio Planning – develop and execute a stakeholder engagement plan and associated processes which incorporates Finance timelines and agreed inputs for the corporate capital budgeting process and
  • Portfolio Communication – activities and processes to communicate about all aspects of project and portfolio progress with appropriate metrics to measure adoption.
  • Project Portfolio Management system development – design the overall framework, develop the associated requirements with technology partners and manage the implementation roadmap for the project portfolio management system to enhance functionality, insights and integration.
  • Portfolio Reporting and Analytics – processes to analyse and report against the forecast spend versus budget, value and progress of the portfolio
  • Portfolio Value Management – processes to evaluate, measure, and track project benefits at the portfolio level
  • Project Monitoring – processes to measure and track project health and performance to scope, change requests, schedule, budget and benefits
  • Portfolio Governance – the decision‑making process to select and prioritise project work
  • Understand and analyse portfolio maturity and the organisation's level of sophistication, and develop and implement practical processes balancing robustness with creating organisational success.
  • Hold people accountable for following the process and support organisational change management to help them adopt and effectively use it.
  • Advocate and educate the organisation on portfolio management processes and implementation to increase portfolio value by establishing a centre of excellence.
  • Communicate across the organisation about project and portfolio value, risk, performance, decisions related to projects and portfolios, and the portfolio management process.
  • Demonstrate soft skills and executive presence to communicate with executive leadership and the organisation.
  • Demonstrate a solid analytic skill set to analyse project and portfolio data and develop reports, dashboards, and analytics to support the portfolio governance team and the Central Project Management Office (PMO).
  • Translate that portfolio information into actionable insights for senior leadership and establish a strategic portfolio plan.
  • Monitor portfolio program progress and provide the governance levels with insights into where the portfolio is at risk in terms of scope, governance, time, cost and outcomes and/or benefits.
  • Establishes and reports critical metrics, and KPIs for measuring portfolio performance
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree is a must
  • MBA from a top tier business school is preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in building financial models and/or executing project portfolio planning
  • Preferably having previous consulting experience with a top consulting house
