About the job Senior FPGA Engineer - Platform
Are you an FPGA systems expert passionate about building next-generation, high-performance communication platforms? Join a cutting-edge technology organization in Abu Dhabi that is redefining secure, mission-critical wireless, tactical, and satellite communication systems. This is your opportunity to shape the core FPGA platforms that enable advanced baseband, high-speed interfaces, and embedded system solutions.
As a Senior FPGA Platform Engineer, you will take technical ownership of FPGA system design, SoC integration, board bring-up, and high-speed I/O development. You'll collaborate closely with hardware, embedded software, and system architecture teams to deliver robust, production-ready platforms that power state-of-the-art communications products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop FPGA specifications and architectures from high-level block diagrams and system requirements.
- Design and implement FPGA/SoC solutions using Xilinx Zynq, Zynq Ultrascale, and/or Intel Altera Agilex platforms.
- Integrate embedded ARM subsystems, DDR memory controllers, AXI buses, and high-speed serial interfaces.
- Implement and optimize internal bus structures, clocking, PLL configurations, and timing architectures.
High-Speed Interfaces & Connectivity
- Design and debug high-speed interfaces such as JESD, CPRI/eCPRI, Ethernet (1G+), and proprietary serial links.
- Ensure signal integrity, deterministic latency, and protocol-level compliance.
- Work on system-level integration for RF/baseband, high-speed converters, and network interfaces.
System Bring-Up, Debug & Validation
- Lead bring-up of custom FPGA-based PCBs, including power sequencing, boot configuration, and interface validation.
- Use advanced debug tools: Chipscope/ILA, on-chip analyzers, protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production.
- Develop HDL test benches, verification environments, and regression testing frameworks.
- Perform timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA sizing.
- Utilize scripted languages (Python, MATLAB, Tcl, etc.) for automation and test environment development.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Work in multidisciplinary teams distributed across geographic regions.
- Support system-level integration, field testing, and qualification activities.
- Produce high-quality documentation for design reviews, manufacturing transfer, and certifications.
Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design experience within telecom, wireless, broadcasting, satellite communications, or similar high-performance domains.
- Strong expertise in VHDL, Verilog, and/or System Verilog; C/C++ experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with:
FPGA architecture, design optimization, and timing closure.
SoC platforms (Zynq, Zynq Ultrascale, Agilex).
DDR, AXI, ARM embedded subsystems.
High-speed interfaces (JESD, CPRI/eCPRI, Ethernet, SERDES).
Hardware bring-up and lab debugging of custom boards.
FPGA debug tools: ILA, chipscope, on-chip simulators.
Testbench development, verification, and automated regression.
Scripting tools (Python, MATLAB, Tcl). - Experience contributing to system-level design, integration, qualification, and manufacturing handover.
- Proven success collaborating with diverse, multi-cultural engineering teams.
