Position: Pulmonology Specialist

Role Summary

The Pulmonology Specialist is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with diseases and disorders of the respiratory system. This includes conditions affecting the lungs, airways, and breathing processes. The specialist will provide both inpatient and outpatient care, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality evidence‑based pulmonary care.

Key Duties
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of respiratory and pulmonary conditions including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, tuberculosis, interstitial lung diseases and lung cancer.
  • Conduct and interpret pulmonary function tests (PFTs), bronchoscopy, sleep studies and imaging results.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic respiratory illnesses.
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support in ICU and non‑ICU settings.
  • Provide consultation and follow‑up care for inpatients and outpatients with respiratory diseases.
  • Work closely with critical care, cardiology and infectious disease teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate patients on disease prevention, medication adherence and smoking cessation programs.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date electronic medical records in compliance with hospital and legal standards.
  • Contribute to training and mentoring of junior doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists.
  • Stay current with advancements in pulmonology, critical care and respiratory medicine through continuous medical education.
  • Participate in on‑call duties, emergency consultations and hospital rounds as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Medical Degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Specialization in Pulmonology / Respiratory Medicine from a recognized training program.
  • Valid medical license or eligibility for licensing in the country/region.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post‑specialization clinical experience in pulmonology, including hospital‑based practice.
  • Proven experience in managing respiratory emergencies and mechanical ventilation.
  • Proficiency in performing bronchoscopy, pleural procedures and in interpreting imaging and PFT results.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
