About the Role

Wood is recruiting for a Project Delivery Manager to join its UAE Business Unit focusing on supporting the delivery and embedding of Digital and Technology initiatives and capabilities within Wood for a Major Onshore Brownfield Project in Dubai, UAE. This is a full-time office based role in Dubai, UAE with travel required.

Key Objectives

The primary purpose of this role is to support the delivery and embedding of Digital and Technology initiatives and capabilities within Wood. The role works in unison with the Digital and Technology function and acts as a strategic partner to deliver agreed initiatives in line with the business strategy and operational plans.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Take a consultative approach to support the business in understanding how to leverage technology to solve problems and create new capabilities in the Digital and Technology sector to support the strategic objectives.
  • Work with the Digital and Technology function and other Product Delivery Leads to ensure best value, efficiencies of delivery and project synergies.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of internal, external and competitor technologies & capabilities to help inform and support the Regions and Business Units in identifying opportunities and challenges which could be addressed by Digital and Technology solutions.
  • Support the region to drive a culture of creativity, innovation and shared ownership across the enterprise.
Strategy
  • Partner with leadership to plan new initiatives, evaluate proposals, and determine the fit into the business capability strategies and tactical plans.
  • Support the delivery of the Digital and Technology strategy, and enable delivery of the overall business strategies – both short and long-term.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the business service lines to inform Digital and Technology deployment and leverage current and emerging technologies to meet short and long-term business goals and objectives.
Programme Oversight
  • Provide leadership across portfolio of projects.
  • Continually seek out and drive areas where technology could improve business delivery.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management and anticipate risks and develop mitigation plans to maintain goals and completion dates.
  • Proactively seek feedback on Digital and Technology performance from the business and share improvement opportunities with Digital and Technology leaders.
  • Work with the identified Business Unit Partners to support governance arrangements around prioritising, delivery and reporting of technology projects.
Communications, Awareness and Relationships
  • Build support and develop strong strategic, operational and tactical relationships across all service lines in their respective Regions to better understand the nature of the challenges and opportunities which could be resolved by technology.
  • Key focal point for requests from senior leaders for Digital and Technology delivery / capability.
  • Share current and best practice across the business drawing from internal and external sources.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to help plan new initiatives.
  • Coach others as required on innovation deployment methodologies and help to create a culture of innovation within the region.
  • Maintain up to date understanding of emerging and developing technologies and solutions to assist the Regions in prioritising areas for improvement / change.
  • Support the effective utilisation of innovation hubs to support innovation collaboration and development as required.
Working Relationships
Internal
  • Key Relationship with the VP Product Delivery, Business Unit Partners and Product Line Owners.
  • Working Relationship with Digital and Technology Leadership Team.
  • Digital and Technology communities of practice.
External
  • External service providers to support and guide the delivery of projects and services to the business with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Technology development operators and partners.
  • Government or independently funded or supported technology and innovation implementation partners (e.g. government technology accelerators).
Level of Influence and Decision Making Authority

This role operates independently to influence the adoption of technology, processes and systems that are strategic to the business. This role works through the VP Product Delivery and has been designed to be a key influencing role, with final decisions with the Business Unit Partners and Chief Technology Officer.

Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in arts, science, engineering or IT.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Outstanding relationship building and development skills and capability. Adept at motivating, guiding and influencing senior management.
  • Ability to succinctly articulate complex concepts, composed and confident self‑starter able to build strong relationships with business contacts.
  • Experience of driving and implementing significant business transformation.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile delivery and innovation deployment and embedment techniques.
  • Track record and proven ability and experience of working up to senior management level.
  • History of working in globally dispersed and multi‑disciplined teams.
  • Experience in working within a high‑performance team.
  • Demonstrate drive to solve problems in a matrix team environment with high energy and a positive attitude.
  • Confident in defining business requirement and where appropriate recommending alternate technical or business approaches.
  • Good understanding of Wood’s strategic commercial and business models and how innovation can be delivered in a sustainable manner.
  • Ideally prior experience in one or more of the following: Technology company and establishing revenue generating partnerships; Operations: Operations/maintenance/engineering/construction; Projects: Pre‑FEED / FEED / detailed engineering / construction / commissioning; Consulting: Environmental / Automation / Infrastructure.
