Job Summary:
A Pharmacy Manager manages the provision of high quality, safe, comprehensive (clinical, supply, financial and operational) pharmaceutical services in the Pharmacy and Clinic. The manager acts as a role model in line with corporate objectives and oversees an in-clinic pharmacy and digital platform working together.
The manager will supervise pharmacy processes and clinical pharmacists who work closely with healthcare professionals to decide upon the best medications to treat patient symptoms. This role requires extensive medical and pharmaceutical knowledge, specifically for diabetes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the pharmacy rota is completed monthly with adequate staffing and vacation coverage (with the approval of the Medical Director and HR representative).
- Ensure the pharmacy staff have clocked in and out each shift and maintain accurate monthly records.
- Maintain pharmacy processes and documentation that are complete, accurate and timely, including but not limited to: inventories, high-alert medication lists and processes, sales recording, purchasing/procurement, petty cash, quality metrics, committee participation and attendance, policy revisions and updates, device management, diamond management, insurance management, and ensuring new pharmacy staff are trained and competent.
- Provide input into the evaluation process of pharmacy staff and be prepared to cover pharmacy operations during emergencies and unplanned absences.
Pharmacist Duties and Responsibilities
- Communication - Coordinate with nurses, physicians, nutritionists and therapists to create a customized care plan for participants for overall health and well-being in person and on a digital platform.
- Confidentiality - Protect patient privacy and ensure information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or business information is disclosed only to authorized persons per Center policies.
- Create Clinical Criteria - Contribute to clinical criteria for new and existing pharmaceuticals, develop guidelines and policies for drug management, contribute to medication safety, and assist with root cause analysis of medication errors as appropriate.
- Analyze patient medical histories - Make prescribing decisions based on patient medical profiles and histories, minimizing risk by supervising clinicians, nurses and patients in medicine use.
- Evaluate Laboratory Data - Monitor lab results to identify adverse effects and inter-drug reactions.
- Report drug adverse events - Record and report adverse effects and suspected drug abuse cases as required.
- Prescribe medications - Use research and analysis to determine appropriate medications after interviewing patients about symptoms and past reactions.
- Financial and resource management - Monitor drug expenditure, forecast costs of new drugs, and manage their introduction into practice using horizon scanning techniques.
- Equality and diversity - Support rights of patients, carers and colleagues, acting in a non-judgmental and respectful manner consistent with Center policies.
- Personal/Professional development - Maintain CPD/CME requirements, participate in annual performance reviews and maintain records of personal and professional development.
- Design and develop policies and protocols for a high-quality, patient-centric pharmacy in a remote monitoring environment.
- Manage procurement and inventory processes.
Understands, follows and supports all hospital infection control programs.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Able to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- BS in Pharmaceutical Science; MPharm (Masters) is an advantage; Holds a DHA license.
- Experience in hospital or clinical pharmacy; experience in medication safety or related areas.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment in high-volume environments.
- Effective communication skills; able to work in a close-knit team with medical and paramedical staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with participants.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize by urgency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement solutions.
