Role Profile: Mechanical/Piping Engineer

This is a greenfield CCGT project to be constructed with a net power capacity of 2400 MW, together with its ancillary equipment, associated infrastructure and facilities. The Project comprises the Plant and associated Electrical Special Facilities (ESF). The Plant will be located inland at a site situated approximately 50 km north-east of the City of Abu Dhabi.

This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in the full lifecycle of the project, from design and engineering to construction and operation, all within a dynamic and innovative environment. This project promises stability and long-term impact.

Overview

The Pipe Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of piping systems in energy and water projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.

Your Job Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)

Supervision & Oversight:

  • Review and monitor EPC Contractor's piping design deliverables (isometrics, general arrangement drawings, stress analysis, material specifications), design elements of gas/steam turbines, HRSG, condensers, pumps, valves, and auxiliary mechanical equipment
  • Ensure design complies with project codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, EN)
  • Validate technical solutions for pipe supports, routing, and interface with equipment and structures

Construction Monitoring:

  • Supervise piping fabrication and erection activities on-site
  • Ensure adherence to approved drawings, quality plans, and installation procedures
  • Review contractor's Method Statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Participate in inspections and witness testing (e.g., hydrotests, flushing, NDT)

Quality and Safety:

  • Monitor construction quality; report non-conformances and follow up on corrective actions
  • Enforce safety practices and participate in Toolbox Talks and site safety walks

Progress and Coordination:

  • Track progress of piping activities; identify and elevate delays or risks
  • Coordinate interfaces between piping systems and other disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical)
  • Support resolution of site technical queries and construction issues

Documentation and Handover:

  • Review and comment on as-built documentation, test reports, and turnover packages
  • Ensure proper documentation is maintained for project close-out and commissioning readiness

Reporting:

  • Prepare weekly progress reports highlighting key risks, issues, and achievements
  • Accept individual responsibility for their own safety as well as share responsibility with their fellow workers and line supervision to look out for their own as well as their co-workers safety
  • Comply with and constructively participate in the Project HSSE activities
  • Work in a safe manner always and contribute to the implementation of the ‘Incident and Injury Free' philosophy
  • Stop any unsafe act/behavior observed and report it to their line supervisor/manager
  • Take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and other personnel who are at the workplace, and who may be affected by any acts or omissions on their part
  • Co-operate with their employer in ensuring that their workplace is as safe and healthy as is reasonably practical
  • Report any hazard or potential hazard in the workplace or any incident, personal injury, accident or near miss that may have occurred during the course of work to the HSSE staff immediately
  • Correctly use, store and maintain PPE issued to them for protection against workplace hazards
  • Follow all verbal or written safe work procedures, practices and directions
  • Observe all warning signs and notices
  • Attend toolbox meetings and all other HSSE meetings as required
  • Attend all scheduled relevant HSSE training courses
  • Comply with work instructions and permit requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Piping Engineering, or a related field
  • 5-7 years (min) of proven experience as a Piping Mechanical Engineer, in the Power (CCGT) or EPC projects
  • Strong knowledge of turbine systems, HRSG, BOP systems, cooling water systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of piping engineering principles, practices, and standards
  • Proficiency in piping design software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools
  • Excellent project management and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
